Have you heard the term CBD? Recently, CBD has become a new buzzword in the health and wellness industry. CBD has been infiltrating pretty much every corner of the wellness world, from coffee shops and spas to retail stores. Everyone from people with anxiety to people who are suffering from arthritis are yearning to try CBD products. But what exactly is CBD? And why is it so popular in the health industry?
CBD, also known as Cannabidiol, is a chemical extract of the marijuana plant that causes some people to feel relaxed and feel less pain. Although it’s a main component of marijuana, CBD does not cause the “high” that people feel when using the marijuana plant either medically or recreationally. Pure CBD has no potential of causing any abuse or dependence. The “high” effect comes from the other chemical ingredient in marijuana called THC. In fact, just the pure CBD extract has no evidence of public health related problems and is obtainable in most parts of the United States.
You may have seen lotions and lattes infused with CBD but what exactly are the benefits to taking it? CBD can help a variety of health issues, but it is commonly used to ease anxiety and insomnia. Studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep. In other studies, CBD was able to reduce the number of seizures, and in some cases, it was able to stop them altogether. CBD may also offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. Although all this research has been done, CBD is still new and does not have enough evidence yet to be a proven supplement.
If you decide to try CBD, talk to your doctor first.
