Hand Therapy with TheraPutty®

There is a reason why TheraPutty® has been the industry standard exercise putty for more than 30 years. It is versatile, easy to use, and available in a variety of resistance levels, ensuring there is a putty available for everyone. It is a staple in rehabilitation clinics that specialize in hand therapy.

With TheraPutty® people can exercise progressively. As the exercises become easier to do, increase the putty resistance level, quantity of putty, or the number of reps to further your hand training.

Below are a few exercises to perform with exercise putty. The putty shown is of a medium resistance (green).

  1. Hand flexion

Place the putty in your palm at the base of your fingers. Squeeze the putty with your fingers into the putty as if you are making a fist. Release your fingers, reshape the putty, and repeat.

  1. Finger pinch

Roll the putty into a ball shape. Pinch between the thumb and fingertips. Reshape the putty and repeat.

  1. Thumb pinch

Roll the putty into a ball. Make a fist and put the ball of putty between your thumb and index finger. Pinch the putty with your thumb towards your index finger. Reshape the putty and repeat.

  1. Thumb Extension

Wrap the putty around the tip of your thumb while it is bent. Hold the loose ends with your other fingers and extend your thumb.

  1. Finger Scissor

Roll the putty into a ball shape. Place between two fingers and squeeze the putty between your fingers together in a scissor-like motion. Reshape the putty and repeat.
